Am I Racist?

So I don't mean to be completely politically incorrect, but I got home the other night and told Rachel what had happened and she told me I needed to post this.  So don't judge me.

I had to go to Target to pick up some necessities (dish detergent, etc.) and I was rushing to get home because I was trying to help Rachel finish her Holocaust homework.  I ended up with five or six items, so I went to the express lane, which apparently becomes un-express after 8:00 pm.  That left me waiting behind this older lady who had two shopping carts completely full of stuff.  Oh, plus she was in a Rascal cart, but that is an entirely different issue, seeing as she was walking just fine outside of the store, but I digress.  So she checks out just fine, making the clerk pull everything out of her cart for her.  The total comes up 211 bucks and some change.  The lady looks at the clerk and says, "no intiendo."  So the clerk, being much more polite than I would have been, turns the little computer screen that says the price on it so that the lady can read it.  The lady keeps repeating her self, "no intiendo, no puedo..." This is where my "racism" comes in.  What do the numerals for two hundred eleven dollars look like in english?  211.  What does doscientos once look like in numerals?  211.  THE SAME!!!!  She just kept saying, "no intiendo, no puedo...."  I could understand if a Japanese or Chinese shopper was having trouble, they have completely different characters.  But in spanish,  they are the same!

It got worse when I told the lady what the total was in spanish.  She took out a huge wad of cash, looked at the numbers, and just started putting them down, not adding them up.  50 plus 50 is 100, english or spanish.  So I had to help her give the correct amount of cash.

I think the border should have a number generator sign, and before someone can cross, they have to say what the number is.  I don't care if they say it in spanish or english, they just need to know their numbers!

Finished!

Ok I know I just posted about my craftiness but, here is another one for you!
I started working on a Scherenschnitte (fancy word for paper cutouts!) inspired by Jill again. I sure talk about her a lot for having never met the girl! I'm such a lurker!
Her cityscapes were so amazing that I had to try one and here it is, the best city on Earth complete with Coit Tower, Transamerica building, the Bank of America building, Alcatraz, Sutro tower and rolling fog. I was so proud until I got it in the frame and realized it looked like a 3 year old had cut it!! Gah! But what can you do right? :)

Projects

I have become really crafty (or wanna be crafty) lately. I don't know where this is coming from because I've never been a real crafty lady.... I just finished a crochet newborn beanie, scarf, and mittens for my best friend Susan's baby, Big C. Maybe she'll post pictures soon... hint hint! ;)
I'm working on a couple things mostly inspired from my cute cousin Shayla who is terribly crafty-ha! there's a double meaning in that! ;)- and she does all these cute projects and she gets a lot of them from this crafting goddess, Jill. I want to do all of them!
"I used to wanna be her!"

Danie's Birthday

We're really slow on the posting! Our niece Danie's birthday was conference weekend and she's 7! It was a High School Musical theme. Needless to say our present of classic little girls literature (Anne of Green Gables, Secret Garden and Little Princess) stood out among all the HSM and Hanna Montana stuff! They made cookies and decorated them and jumped on the trampoline. Our sister in law Kelly goes all out!

Isn't he cute??

I Wouldn't Survive in Your World

So we are at my parents house right now, so we don't have pictures to add to the message, but I just wanted to update. Last week, Rachel's school had a fund raising carnival and we thought it would be fun to take the two footers (Grant and Kelly's kids) to it. We definitely won some favorite uncle and aunt points with the trip, although they were disgusted by the battery acid stains in the back of the car. But we spent about 3 hours in the play field of Rachel's school.

They had all sorts of fun things for the kids to do. There was a huge water slide, an obstacle course, face painting, tie dye stations (15 bucks a shirt!) it was a blast. We had to convince the three kids to try anything other than the water slide though, they were addicted to it.

But I have to update about my part on Rachel's birthday. I'm just going to throw out there that this woman is the hardest person to plan something special for. Everything I was trying to organize was falling through... so we had a great dinner at Macaroni Grill, then we went and saw the late showing of Mrs. Pettigrew Lives For A Day. Great film, highly recommend it. But no one else was in the theatre, it was just the two of us. It was awesome.

Watch out world....

We are gym members!! Huzzah! Nate and I got sick and tired of feeling squishy (I think Nate was mostly tired of me whining about it! ;) ) so whe joined LA Fitness down the street aways from us. We were so excited to try it that we went out and bought gym clothes and went last night. Needless to say, we both can't feel our legs today! But we are still excited to go back today and do upper body. We started off on the bikes and I was so short my feet kept slipping off! How embarrassing.

Insert my face here!
